Here is our first Content Demo page. Our testing previously was higgeldy, piggeldy. A look at the early history of Earth Chronicle will show you we didn't even have a reliable way to archive pages. It's just the pieces that we were able to salvage from various design attempts. From now on, we should be able to archive each template systematically.
Implementing Master Pages
There have been a few changes while we've been pushing content into the master pages. Our big change was adding a new set of recommended page links. It was a more "selective" offering to suggest to people and more accessible for humans being right at the end of the content. The Page Links are fabulous because the extended list mimics the main menu bar in an accessible format, however, they were more than a screen height away from the end of the content. That was just too far. So we created the more conveniently placed recommended links. They snuck into the template sometime between the completion of master page testing in October 2008 and when the Earth Chronicle 2.0 launched on January 20, 2009.
We also changed the arrangement of the contact form elements. It was a fairly minor change but it achieved a better cross browser display, even though I'd still like it to be improved. The funny part is, I don't remember putting these changes in. Anyway, that's all I can say about it. The rest of the changes to the page are detailed as part of the master page development section.
